Dashad Smith has been missing for about a week. Family members, friends and Charlottesville Police continue their efforts to find the missing teen.
Family and police report Smith occasionally wears women's clothes and goes by the name Sage. Relatives spent the past few days copying and distributing flyers, hoping to generate any tips that would lead to his safe return.
Smith's mother, Latasha Grooms, says she went to pick up her son in Charlottesville for Thanksgiving and was unable to find him. She only knows that he went to visit a friend.
"As a mother, you don't want to think negative. You want to look at the positive, anything positive. So I'm hoping that he returns safe and hope that nothing is wrong," said Grooms.
DaShad Laquinn Smith is 19 years old, 5'11", 130 pounds and was last seen wearing a black jacket, dark grey sweat pants, black scarf and grey boots.
Smith was last seen in the 500 block of West Main Street on Tuesday around 6:30 p.m.
"During the holiday season, this is generally the time families come together," Charlottesville Police Lt. Ronnie Roberts said. "And when you have that missing person there at the holiday dinner, that's pretty important and we try to do what we can."
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
