Relay for Life Parade Begins in Charlottesville

June 15, 2013

The Charlottesville Relay for Life began Saturday night at the Albemarle High School track.

The American Cancer Society event began at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Dozens of people began parading around the track with the goal of raising money to help fund cancer research.

The event goes into the night and early-morning hours, and anyone was welcome to walk.

"The really neat thing about relay is that young, old, we all come together, we support the survivors and we fight back for a cure," said Trisha Spradlin, the Relay for Life organizer.

The group says it's falling short of its $150,000 goal, but anyone can go online any time of year to donate.
