Replacing Belmont Bridge Could Impact Parking for Residents

June 3, 2014

The question of whether or not the Belmont Bridge should be a bridge or underpass remains up in the air. However, many area residents are already considering the impact a decision could have on parking.

There are two options to replace the Belmont Bridge: One would be to make an enhanced bridge. The other would make and underpass that would include an iconic looking pedestrian overpass.

Many people who work in the area say an underpass might not be the best option because it would make parking on the downtown mall even harder.

"This is usually where I find parking every day for work," says Patrick Strasser, local resident. "My fiancé also parks here every day and I mean if this parking is full it’s really hard to find parking."

Most parking options are limited on the Downtown Mall. Some people say when the area under the Belmont Bridge is full that their only other option is to pay for the parking garage on Water Street.
