Residents in the Key West neighborhood of Albemarle Co. believe there should be a new location for an AT&T cell phone tower.
The plans will make it so the tower will be in the middle of the residential area and now residents want to voice their concerns.
The cell tower is expected to help with cell phone reception along Rt. 20 near the Key West neighborhood. Residents believe the future location, which is in the middle of their neighborhood, will cause some health concerns.
Residents looked at research dealing with high levels of radiation and believe the cell tower could create risks of elevated cancer rates, headaches, dizziness, and depression.
They explained that this is the first AT&T tower to be built in the middle of an Albemarle Co. neighborhood.
So, Monday night they plan to voice their concerns. A meeting will be held at 6:30pm in the Broadus Memorial church, 1525 Stony Point road. Doors will open at 6.
There are laws that protect telephone providers like AT&T from having to move a tower because of possible health concerns, but residents still want representatives to know that they are upset with those plans.
