The Rivanna River Basin Commission held an orientation meeting Monday for new members to learn about the group's programs. During the meeting they learned about the history of the commission.

The organization helps provide guidance for the stewardship of water and natural resources. It also oversees some of watersheds in Albemarle, Greene and Fluvanna counties and the City of Charlottesville.

"If you come to a meeting without really any background, it's very difficult to get up to speed on what's happening. This is an effort to ensure that doesn't happen," said Chairman Marvin Moss.

The Rivanna River Basin Commission was formed in 2007.
