The roads in Central Virginia were a mess for much of Monday. The way the weather unfolded, road crews could not do any pre-treating.
Up at the intersection of Rio Road and Route 29N, the roads remained covered in snow in both directions even though snowfall has stopped.
Between midnight until noon, 19 crashes were reported in the Charlottesville and Albemarle County area. Police say traffic has been pretty light today.
"We slid a little bit coming off of Route 20 down here at the bottom of the hill, and as you know that's a hilly road,” Freddy Jackson said. “We didn't see another people like sliding or in a ditch or anything like that, but it's pretty bad. It's a nice little sheet of snow under a layer of ice."
