At Wednesday morning's Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, Dennis Rooker announced he will not be seeking another term on the board.
Rooker easily won elections in 2001 and 2005, before running unopposed in 2009.
After running through a list of accomplishments made by the board, Rooker said that Albemarle County School Board member Diantha McKeel run for the Jack Jouett district seat in the next election this November.
"I wasn't comfortable doing it until it knew that there was someone willing to step forward to run in the Jouett district who had confidence and would be a very good supervisor if elected," says Rooker.
That person is Albemarle County School Board member Diantha McKeel.
"I'm announcing my independent candidacy for the board of supervisors," says McKeel. "I'm asking the citizens of the Jack Jouett Magisterial District to honor me again with their vote and elect me on November the 5th to represent them on the board of supervisors."
Rooker says some of his extra time off of the board will be spent with his seven grandchildren.
