After an alleged rape and abduction last week at the University Place apartments, CBS19 heard from a roommate of the alleged victim who says she does not feel safe there and is trying to get out of her lease.

Jessica Fletcher says she just wants her apartment to feel like a home.

"When somebody bangs on my door, I'm not scared to death. I'm not looking out of the peep hole to see if it's a cop. You know, make sure I don't walk into a situation like I did on Monday," 25-year-old Fletcher said.

She came back to her apartment last Monday morning after a weekend at home. She found out later that day that police arrested Henry Jasper of Louisa for allegedly raping and abducting her roommate.

She says she came back to her apartment with caution tape on the door and her room, which was clearly searched through.

"I'm not safe, because I wasn't notified. I feel like one phone call could have changed a lot of issues that we're having now," she said.

The management of the complex was not helpful in letting her know the details of what exactly happened or even just letting her know that police might have been in her room to look for evidence. On Monday, she said to herself, 'I have to get out of here."

"Honestly, I'm scared to come here at night. I have a criminal justice degree and I'm scared to be here," Fletcher said. "I know things happen everywhere. It's a college town, something is bound to happen but the security level here, is none."

As she looks for another apartment and continues working full-time, she has some advice for others who are apartment shopping.

"Walk around by yourself, see how you feel when you're walking around by yourself so you don't end up in the same situation I am. And you can't get out of it."

CBS19 reached out to American Campus, which owns University Place, to see if they have a comment or any plans to heighten security or make some changes, but we have not received any response.
