A car crash around 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Route 250 sent two people to the hospital and caused traffic to be delayed while crews cleared the scene.

Lt. Ronnie Roberts, with the Charlottesville Police Department, says a Toyota Avalon was traveling on McIntire Road. As the driver turned left onto Rt. 250, his car was struck by a van traveling east on Rt. 250.

The driver of the Toyota, a 57-year-old Charlottesville male, and a passenger were both taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the van, a female from Warrenton, was charged with disregarding a highway sign.

Traffic was backed up while crews cleared the scene, but was moving again by 2 p.m.

I almost got T- boned at this same spot several years ago. People are always trying to beat that light. I've learned never to pull out to make that left turn until I can verify that everyone is slowing down.
