SPCA Freedom Special Gave Away 157 Pets to New Homes

July 14, 2013

The Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA wrapped up two weeks of waiving all adoption fees for adult dogs and cats on Sunday.

Dozens of new pets now have new homes and the SPCA staff says it's been a busy two weeks at their locations on Berkmar Drive and Pantops.

The Freedom Special is an annual event that always brings in brand new pet-owners an some who come back for more. Both, though, leave with new family members.

"[Saturday] was a really good day, we did 15 adoptions yesterday alone and we're expecting to surpass that considerably today. This is the biggest deal we have it's celebrating 7 years as a no-kill community and also our independence," said SPCA Director Beth McPhee.

McPhee says another special will begin on Monday for cats and kittens.
