The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA needs the public's help to make sure their kittens are healthy.

Officials at the CASPCA say they're in need of canned cat food during "kitten season." It's the time of year when the shelter sees an influx of kittens less than a year old.

Kittens at that age require a few more nutrients than dry foods offer.

"They're going to require just a little extra than a normal dry food, particularly before they're available for adoption because often times they're very small and too young for spay or neuter surgery," said Ryan Willis, the shelter's animal care manager. "So it helps just fatten them up and get them up to weight."

The SPCA is also looking for fosters to house their kittens before they're available for adoption. For more information, visit the SPCA's website.
