Hurricane Sandy brought snow to many parts of the Shenandoah Valley, even bringing some to Central Virginia. Wintergreen Resort in Nelson County is going to have a spooky, white Halloween.
The drive to Wintergreen is clear of any snow but once you get to the base of the resort, everything changes. Hurricane Sandy brought anywhere between a dusting at the base of the resort to more than 6 inches of snow at the Devils Knob Overlook.
Wintergreen was prepared for the snow and has several snow plows working on the mountain roads.
Resort Vice President, Jay Roberts, said weather forecasting is a big part of their budget each year. "We spend a lot of money on weather forecasting. We get 2-3 different companies to give us weather forecasts year round and we started looking at this about a week ago, before anybody was really talking about it. And the potential for essentially what has been a winter hurricane."
Roberts also says that this snowfall isn't a game changer for the ski season. The season is still planned to open on December 8th. But it is a good reminder that winter and the ski season is just around the corner for winter enthusiasts.
