Hurricane Sandy's destruction of New York and New Jersey shorelines is effecting Central Virginia's local seafood market.
Anderson's Carriage Food House in Charlottesville did not receive
deliveries from up north for the past few days and while they say they
pride themselves on carrying Virginia products, local fisherman cannot get into the water right now.
Ted Anderson, the manager of Anderson's Carriage Food House says for the time being, quality and quantity will not be great. The northern states may look to us for some help.
"They're going to come to Virginia and North Carolina to buy our
product up, which means that the demand will be greater which could
effect the prices. Hopefully not for long, though," Anderson said.
"Until the water recedes, the fisherman can't get out, until the mud
calms down they can't get anything."
Anderson says this kind of impact should last about two weeks but he
says the local industries should be stable just in time for the
holidays.
