Science Museum of Va. Gets Grant for 'Learning Lab'

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Science Museum of Virginia has received a $100,000 grant to design a new digital center for teenagers to build on skills in science and technology.
The learning lab funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is one of a dozen grants awarded across the country.
Officials say the lab will be designed to promote discovery, creativity, critical thinking and real-world learning through activities that bring together academics and student interests.
Students will participate primarily from other locations through the Internet. The program is set to begin next summer.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/XpZAU5 ) that grant recipients must match the funds and partner with local educational, cultural and civic organizations.
