Scottsville leaders say they would welcome a proposed county gun range with open arms. It would counter the economic down-turn that came when the Hyosung plant shut down in 2011.

"We're aware that right now a proposal is being made about that site. When we had our public discussion on Monday night we heard both from residents who were in favor of the idea of not having the firing range in Keene," said Dan Gritsko. "There were some who express concern about if we had a firing range in Scottsville."

The town council says they are willing to discuss community members concerns.

The building is now owned by real estate developer Dr. Charles Hurt. He says he uses it as a place to store construction materials, but would not be oppose to selling or leasing the facility as a gun range.

"I think it would mean a lot to Scottsville because they have fairly high unemployment with the plant being closed," said Hurt. "I think it would help the restaurant business and help the gas stations."

No plans are finalized, but Scottsville leaders say they are excited about the economic possibilities.
