An effort to force Chris Dumler off the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors is underway.
Scottsville residents are signing an online petition asking Dumler to resign, and they are using social media to spread the word.
"I think that he should resign. He's plead guilty to a sexual battery charge and that's not OK for a public official," said Scottsville resident, Barbara Coleman.
The Albemarle County board of Supervisors voted 3 to 2 to support a resolution asking Dumler to step down from office. Residents say if he remains on the board, it will send the wrong message.
"I think it's saying that it's OK. Its saying that if you're going around and you hurt a woman and your still allowed to speak in the public and work with the public, its just letting him get off," said Scottsville resident, Christine Coleman.
Sara, the Sexual Assault Resource Agency is also calling for Dumlers resignation.
"Our vision is a community free of sexual violence and as such we feel the need to respond to this situation because we have a public figure who has plead guilty to the misdemeanor," said SARA Executive Director, Becky Weybright.
Dumler says he wants to remain on the board, because there was more work to be done.
"He might be able to do his job, however it doesn't make his actions ok." Christine Coleman.
"Just because you're doing your job does not mean that you can hurt woman and get away with it," said Barbara Colman.
Community members say a person on the board should be a role model for children and the community. They say Dumler is not fitting that description.
