Search Warrants Offer Insight in Fatal Shooting of Crozet Man

June 13, 2013

Search warrants reveal details about the moment leading up to when an officer shot and killed Greg Rosson Jr.

Court documents show officers found gun ammunition, but no gun, when they searched Rosson's truck and the Crozet home where he was killed.

The search warrants also shed some light on the moments leading up to the shooting.

Police were called to Rosson's girlfriend's home on Rockfish Vally Turnpike early Saturday morning for a domestic situation. When police arrived, they found Rosson assaulting a woman.

Virginia State Police said the shooting happened when Rosson ran towards the officers.

The scene described in the search warrant says officers saw the assault, and called for Rosson to stop. When he didn't, the officer "subsequently shot the male to stop the threat."

Neighbors say Rosson was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

Rosson did have a prior arrest for fighting a police officer in December.

Albemarle County Police have remained tight-lipped about the shooting, but Virginia State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
