Republicans want a full investigation and are calling for President Obama to apologize now that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has admitted targeting conservative organizations for extra scrutiny.
The agency took aim at Tea Party groups during the 2012 presidential election.
The IRS is blaming low-level employees for whit calls inappropriate actions.
On Monday, Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement in response to the recent reports:
“I am very concerned about allegations the IRS targeted certain groups seeking tax-exempt status on political grounds, including a Virginia-based organization. There’s no excuse for ideological discrimination in our system. The Administration should take swift action to get to the bottom of this to ensure those responsible for misconduct are held accountable and establish appropriate safeguards to prevent this from ever happening again."
The White House says President Obama expects swift action for any misconduct.
