Sentencing Delayed for Mark Weiner

Aug. 4, 2014

A Greene County man convicted of abduction will have to wait another two months to find out his sentence.

On Monday, a judge set 53-year-old Mark Weiner's sentencing for this coming October. Officials have yet to release the results of a psychological profile being done on Weiner by mental health professionals.

In May 2013, Weiner was found guilty of the December 2012 abduction of a Charlottesville woman. Police say he picked up the 20-year-old woman in front of the Lucky 7 convenience store in downtown Charlottesville, and took her to an abandoned house where he intended to assault her.

Last month, an Albemarle County judge denied a request to overturn a guilty verdict in the case.

Lawyers for Weiner had asked the judge to overrule the jury's verdict based on their allegation that the victim lied on the stand.

An Albemarle Co. jury has recommended a 20-year sentence.
