Sequester Cuts Causing Defense Vacancies on Route 29

April 25, 2013

A new report raises a warning about the sequester cuts on businesses in Charlottesville.

The report says office vacancies are the highest along the Route 29 corridor, and experts say that is because some defense contractors are leaving their spaces.

More than 20 percent of large office buildings are vacant along Route 29, including one large building at the University of Virginia Research Park.

The report says non-defense companies are picking up some of the slack, though.
