Several Roads to be Closed for Charlottesville Marathons

April 5, 2013

Charlottesville residents should be aware of some changes in traffic for a marathon going on Saturday.

Both the Charlottesville Marathon and Half Marathon start in Charlottesville on Ridge/McIntire, looping around the city and county, and ending on 2nd Street.

Old Ivy Road, Old Garth Road, and from Garth Road leading to Barracks Farm Road will be closed in Albemarle County.

Those roads will only be open for residents who live in that area.

Drivers are asked to avoid those areas if possible

"Between 6:30 in the morning, you'll wanna be avoiding it," said Charlottesville Police Lieutenant Ronnie Roberts. "Then probably about 8 o'clock on you'll want to be very conscious about not venturing to the immediate area where you'll get tied up in some of the traffic delays from the marathon."

The half and full marathons begin at 6:30 AM, the 8K starts at 7:00 AM, and The Kids' Mile gets underway at 9:00 AM.

Traffic will be rerouted to 250 West for drivers heading to Crozet and Ivy.
