RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Snack maker Shearer's Foods plans to add a tortilla chip line to its manufacturing operation in Bristol, Va.
The expansion is expected to create up to 25 jobs. The company currently employs more than 200 workers at their Bristol operation.
Shearer's Foods vice president Mark Schwerdtfeger says economic incentives provided by the city and the state were a factor in the company's decision to expand the Bristol operation.
Governor Bob McDonnell approved a $75,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund to assist Bristol with the project. The expansion also will receive $245,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission.
