Sheriff's Department Swears in Volunteers

April 23, 2013

The largest number yet of volunteers officially joined the Albemarle County Sheriff's Department.

Seventeen new members were sworn into the Sheriff's Volunteer Reserve Division on Monday.

One new volunteer, Mike Waylett, works as Associate Head of School at St. Anne's Belfield.

Waylett said the training was a new challenge.

"I've always had an interest in law enforcement and saw this as a real opportunity to get involved, help my community, challenge myself, and learn something new."

These volunteers provided needed jobs, such as courtroom security, prisoner transportation, and overseeing most community programs.
