Sinkhole Causes Traffic Delays on 250 Bypass at McIntire Road

March 7, 2014

A sinkhole emerged on an eastbound lane right on top of a gas line.

Around 8:30 PM the 250 Bypass was shut down in both directions. Shortly after, westbound lanes were reopened.

Around 10 PM one eastbound lane was opened relieving some of the traffic backup.

According to the construction site superintendent, a new gas line was recently installed and was being pressure tested around the clock .

Apparently a piece of the gas line failed causing a huge burst of air underneath the pavement.

Crews were still filling the hole at 11 PM Friday night.

They plan to work until the hole is filled.

They will continue work on Monday.
