Snow in higher elevations trapped a boy scout troop hiking the Appalachian Trail early Sunday morning in Nelson County, and rescue crews had to escort them from the mountain.
Blue Ridge Life Magazine reports the troop left on a hike from Mount Pleasant around 7 a.m. Sunday. Shortly after, the area saw up to five inches of snowfall.
Troop 259 out of Chesapeake stayed at the Seeley-Woodworth Shelter along the trail and contacted rescue crews. Montebello Fire and Rescue, along with rangers from the National Park Service, helped the troop return.
None of the scouts were injured.
