After almost a decade, construction is underway in Greene County on the streetscape project in Stanardsville.
Brand new sidewalks, crosswalks and lighting are on the way.
The city wasn't able to get funding at first, because they had fewer than 3,000 residents. However, the area has been growing and will be able to fix up Main Street.
"There's been a lot of red tape," says Richard Early, a member of the Stanardsville Town Council. "Finally things have worked out and we actually, the contractor actually started I think on Monday, but anyway we finally got things going and we're really happy about that."
Early is hopeful construction will be completed in time for the big Christmas parade later in the year.
