Standardsville Gets Approval for Main St. Project

April 26, 2013

Major improvements to Main Street in Standardsville are expected to get underway this summer.

The Downtown Streetscape Enhancement Project was approved on Thursday, and now construction firms can begin bidding on the project.

The city plans to install new sidewalks, crosswalks, streetlights, and make other improvements on Main Street.

Roy Dye, executive director of Stanardsville Area Revitalization, said, “Based on that time-table, construction of crosswalks at the school complex should begin sometime in July, while school is out. Then the contractor will move up the road to begin work on the three blocks of Main Street from Celt Road to Rectory Lane.”

Dye said the planned improvements will take several months to complete and “will transform the downtown streetscape.”

The construction contract will also be approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation before work begins.
