Whether it's teaching caregiver classes or looking after the elderly, Ed Shaw is doing whatever he can to provide seniors in the Central Virginia with care. In this week's Stephanie's Heroes Home Instead Senior Care in Charlottesville is naming Shaw "Caregiver of the Year" for all he does in the community.
Three days a week you can find Ed Shaw at The Lodge at Old Trail. It's a senior living community in Crozet. He's there to help his client get dressed, go on walks and he even takes him on trips around town to keep him both physically and mentally active.
Even when Shaw is not there, he's still working to help seniors. He teaches several community outreach programs at Home Instead Senior Care to help prepare new caregivers for the job.
Because of all of his hard work, his peers are naming him "Caregiver of the Year."
"It's just really an honor to be able to be selected by a group of your peers because everybody on the staff at Home Instead has had experience giving care so I think they understand what it takes to be able to be the kind of caregiver that families appreciate," said Ed Shaw, Caregiver, Home Instead Senior Care.
Shaw says one of the best parts about his job, is building friendships with his clients and their families.
