Christmas is right around the corner and one Fluvanna County man has been working hard all year long to make sure kids have presents to open Christmas morning. In this week's Stephanie's Heroes CBS19’s Stephanie Satchell is featuring George Kuhlow who's been one of Santa's special helpers for more than 50 years.

The Christmas tree is decorated and the holiday music is playing at George Kuhlow's Lake Monticello home.

It's one of the busiest times of the year for this senior. From October to December his calendar is full.
That's because he dresses up as Santa and delivers bags of presents to children and families in need around central Virginia.

“I can't describe the feeling. I mean people say what are you doing it for? I say because I love doing it. I love doing it. I really do,” said George Kuhlow, Santa’s Helper.

Not only does he pack up his car and drop off gifts several times a day, he actually collects the toys and stores them in his home throughout the year.

“I have aisles to walk through in every room. My kitchen, my foyer, my living room, my dining room, my bedroom even my jacuzzi is filled,” said Kuhlow.

Kuhlow doesn't mind that practically every inch of his living space is covered if it means bringing a smile to a child's face. This year his list includes lots of smiling children. He's helping 18 families.

“My kids keep telling me every year dad you got to slow down. I say yeah yeah I'll be cutting down. I say I think I bit off a little more than I can chew this year. They say you say that every year and then you take up a couple more,” said Kuhlow.

Kuhlow just has a big heart and says he wants to spread as much holiday cheer as he can and make sure every child has a few presents under the tree.

During the holidays, Kuhlow also reads to children at school and does special Santa visits at area nursing homes and shelters. Even after the holiday, he'll still be collecting toys in preparation for Christmas 2013. If you’d like to donate just e-mail George Kuhlow at
