Christmas has passed, but that doesn't mean all the shopping has finished. Some people say this is the best time to buy.
"It's a good time to shop," said Charlottesville resident Janie Dyer. "There's a lot of bargains. You can get a lot of sales after Christmas, and that's what I like."
Dyer chases deals and discounts every year at this time. She got a late start because of Wednesday's storm, but she's confident she'll make up for it.
"I may come out later today," she said. "Then I might come out again, two, three times before I finish."
Many stores are also extending their year-end discounts to their web sites. Retailers like Amazon and Macy's are offering up to 70 percent off some items. Shoppers say it is a great time to use all the gift cards you got for Christmas.
Too many people forget they have gift cards and never use the money. Research firm TowerGroup estimates $2 billion worth of gift cards will go unused this year.
Other people are at the store this time of year for another reason.
"We're exchanging my Christmas gift," said Kyleigh Powell, from Scottsville. She was returning a pair of boots.
"We had to exchange them for a different pair because they were too small," Powell said.
