Students from the Darden Graduate School of Business are helping bring a few houses back to life through the Building Goodness in April Build Day (BGIA).
Hundreds of students volunteered to help spruce up 12 homes around Charlottesville including one house off of Montrose Avenue.
“A day like today we all come out in force and do as much as we can to help out little projects around the house,” says first year graduate student Brad Brewer. “We are actually replacing a porch today as well as painting the entire exterior of the house.”
The home owner was more grateful to have the help as he wasn't able to fix his home all on his own.
“I'm just overwhelmed,” says Raymond Williams. “I'm feeling good and great, it just perks me up.”
“They are helping me to make a new start and move forward.”
Williams hopes his son can learn a lesson from seeing the work students are doing.
“I tell them whatever you put into life right now, early in life, you will receive rewards in your later life,” says Williams.
First years from the Darden School have been partnering up with the Building Goodness Foundation since 1991. The materials used for the build are all donated by local contractors and businesses.
Overall students say it's just good to get out and help people in the community.
“We're kind of held up in class during the year and to be able to get out, not actually to do stuff and to do some manual labor, but to meet some of the people in the community and do something for someone else, it's a good feeling,” says Brewer.
