Students at one Charlottesville school are getting a lesson in trees ahead of Arbor Day.
Second-graders at Clark Elementary School are planting a new beech tree at their school. It's all part of Dominion's Project Plant-It.
The goal is to inspire young people to be the next environmental leaders by having them take an active part in making the world a greener place.
The kids got a little dirty, and had fun while planting.
“I love trees. My favorite ones are the cherry blossoms because they're really pink,” said Katya Thalwitz, 2nd grader.
“I look forward to this every year, the opportunity to get outside and just educate children about the importance of trees and really just have fun,” says Paulin Cheatham with Project Plant-It. “It's all about making learning about trees fun.”
The kids also planted flowers in the library garden and wrote thank-you notes to the trees for all the benefits they give the Earth.
