Students at Buford Middle School are showing their green thumb and gearing up to expand their garden.
The students launched an online fundraising campaign to build a brand new hoop house, a greenhouse of sorts, to accompany Buford's organic garden.
They received donations not just from Charlottesville, but all over the world.
Incorporating the garden into the curriculum was tricky in the winter, but the new hoop house will let the kids work on that green thumb throughout the year.
"We had a long, cold winter this past winter and for subsequent winters when that's an issue the hoop house is going to provide an amazing outdoor classroom that’s protected from the weather," said Guinevere Higgins. "It is also going to enable us to start our own plants, and that’s something that we've not been able to do successfully on a large scale in the past."
The school plans to order all the materials soon, so they can put up the hoop house this summer.
