Students Selling Pottery to Benefit American Indian College Fund

May 19, 2011

Jouett Middle School students who participated in the Empty Vessel Project will be selling their final pottery pieces Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Jouett Middle School.

All proceeds will be donated to the American Indian College fund.

The sale includes student work from a year-long pottery making adventure made possible by a grant from the Shannon Foundation. With that money, the school purchased a pottery wheel for the Empty Vessel Project allowing approximately 200 art students to take turns at the pottery wheel.

Learning to use the pottery wheel, students created pots that demonstrated Native American designs, which helped foster an appreciation for Native American art. They incorporated social studies and mathematics into the art project, integrating geometrical uses of patterning while working on their pots.

The sale will take place Thursday night at Jouett Middle School on Lambs Road in Charlottesville. It is free and open to the public.
