It was a successful day for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Stuff a Truck.

The goal was 5,000 pounds of food. That goal was exceeded.

The Newsplex, HitKicker 99.7, and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank were in front of the Giant grocery store on Pantops on 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday collecting money and non-perishable foods.

People filled barrels and boxes with food that will go to to help feed families in the Central Virginia area.

"People who are hungry are in all of our lives. They're the people who deliver our newspaper, who service our meals, they're the people who are standing behind the counter at the cleaners. More and more people who are coming to the food bank for help are working, but they're working fewer hours for less pay without benefits," said Michael McKee, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank CEO.

McKee added that the food bank appreciates donations all year. If you'd like to donate food, click here for a list of their most needed items, from rice, to canned soups, to personal care items.
