A four hour manhunt, not far from Monticello on Thomas Jefferson Parkway turns up no results. But police say the search for Michael Currier is not over.

"We will continue to search for this individual but not in the same effort that we have today where we have all hands on deck and the canines out searching," said Carter Johnson, the public information officer for Albemarle County Police. "Now we need the community's help."

About 20 officers from Albemarle County and the Sheriff's Department searched the wooded area around Route 53 and Milton Road for several hours Wednesday afternoon.

"Police came down, they had dogs on Route 53," said Mary Jones, whose house faces some of the woods where they searched. "I was wondering what was going on. I didn't ask any questions but it was kind of scary."

The manhunt started when a Sheriff's Deputy recognized Currier in a passing car and tried to pull him over. Currier jumped out of the car and ran into the woods.

"I understand the community might be concerned, and we certainly understand that fear, but we don't want to the community to be afraid to go home tonight," said Johnson.

Currier is wanted on several felony charges, including breaking and entering, grand larceny, probation violations, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. However, police say there is no reason to believe Currier is armed.

Currier is about 5'9" and weighs about 190 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Police say he has a distinctive tattoo on his elbow of a spider web.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Currier, you are asked to give police a call.
