While Albemarle County supervisor Chris Dumler maintains he will continue serving on the Board of Supervisors, his colleagues on the board are making a plan to get ahead of the situation.

Dumler completed his first weekend behind bars on Sunday night, exiting the regional jail around 6:30 p.m.

On the agenda for Wednesday's board meeting is one item to establish a public process for appointing an interim board member if a vacancy occurs. And in Wednesday's closed meeting, supervisors will discuss removing Dumler from all board-appointed positions, committees and commissions.

"We're just kind of getting ready to make sure when and if he does resign, we have a process of, it doesn't mean it's set in stone, it means we're just getting prepared for whatever happens," supervisor Rodney Thomas said.

Thomas says especially right now during the budget period, it is too important to his constituents and the entire county to stay focused on the budget. Thomas says whenever Dumler speaks, he just turns his head the other way.

"I wouldn't say it's eating all of us alive but it's taking up a lot of our time that we need to put into the county business," he said. "It's sad, it's real sad. And I don't think Albemarle County has ever had anything like this happen. Even when I was in the Army, I didn't experience anything like this. Just no integrity here. That's the problem."

Back in 2011 when Dumler was elected, Thomas told The Daily Progress: "I don't think he is a good candidate. I can work with most people but it's going to be an uphill battle."

Thomas tells CBS19 he not only thought the wrong person was elected, but the wrong kind of person.

Dumler will report back to jail on Friday. He has fourteen more weekends behind bars to go.
