A mental health expert who played a role in the Virginia burial of a Boston Marathon bombings suspect is speaking about the incident.
Martha Mullens said she considered it the right thing to do. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who, along with his brother, is suspected of placing bombs near the finish line of the marathon and killing three people, was buried in secret this week at a Muslim cemetery in Doswell.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police.
Mullen said she worked with Islamic Funeral Services in Virginia to arrange the burial but wasn't expecting the barrage of attention and backlash.
"I think as the police chief said in Wooster, we're not barbarians. We bury the dead. And I agree with that," she said. "I was trying to provide, or help facilitate, a solution for a situation that was increasingly untenable and expensive, to say the least."
Some members of the Islamic Center of Virginia are among those angered by the decision to bury Tsarnaev in Doswell.
