A 21-year-old Greene County man arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a dog plans to plead guilty while his friend accused of pulling the trigger will stand trial.

Neither Brian Tichner nor Justin Riggs appeared in Albemarle County Circuit Court Monday, but that didn't stop their cases from moving forward. Tichner, of Dyke, was indicted by a grand jury and says he will plead guilty to a weapons charge at a hearing on September 13.

He testified in May that Riggs, of Charlottesville, pulled the trigger and killed Mattie, a 10-month-old Siberian Husky belonging to Ed and Yvonne Scarborough, in the Fray's Grant neighborhood in January.

A bench trial has been scheduled for Riggs on August 23. He is charged with cruelty to animals, taking game or fish during closed season and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

I certainly hope the real "Justice" will prevail in this case. Hopefully, Mr. Riggs will once again find himself a guest at one of Virginia's "incarceration spas," and his new roommates know what he is in for.
