Starr Hill Presents Tuesday announced the return of TEDxCharlottesville to Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. Following on the heels of last year's sold-out inaugural event, the 2014 TEDxCharlottesville event, titled "RefleXions", will be on Friday, November 14 at The Paramount Theater.
TEDx is a local spin-off of the nationally renowned TED Talks that often go viral online. In the spirit of the TED mission of "ideas worth spreading", independent volunteer committees organize and create TED-like events in their own communities.
TEDxCharlottesville will include live speakers and performers from all walks of life. Ten initial speakers were announced Tuesday, with more to be announced throughout the summer. View the slide show above to learn more about each speaker.
TEDxCharlottesville committee member Chris Farina says this year’s speakers are “from all walks of life, representing the fields of design, technology, environmental studies, community empowerment, and the arts, among others; each an individual whose work is dedicated to making our world a better one, and each who has an “idea” and a story worth sharing.”
Speakers will include: Thomas Woltz, Yael Malemede, Jim Hubbard, Yiqi Cao, Greg Fairchild, Dean King, Andrea Douglas, Holistic Life Foundation, Donald Davis, Peter Agelasto.
Tickets for TEDxCharlottesville will go on sale Friday, July 11 at 10am. General admission tickets are $88 (plus a $2 facility fee) and include: access to all speakers and experiences, a continental breakfast, complimentary lunch and a post-event party at the Jefferson Theater. A small amount of 'Early Bird' tickets will be available for $78 starting Wednesday, July 9 at 10am. For event and tickets information, go to TEDxCharlottesville.com.
