A pitch perfect prescription for local patients.
Patients, staff, and others could enjoy a live musical performance in the lobby of the Martha Jefferson Hospital by the group Quintango.
The group played songs including "Por una Cabeza," a 1935 tango featured in the movie Scent of a Woman.
Tango dancers joined the group for some songs.
The award-winning tango quintet has performed at venues including the White House and the American embassy in Brazil. It also travels throughout the state to rural areas to provide cultural experiences.
Martha Hunter, Director of Guest and Volunteer Services at Martha Jefferson Hospital says music and medicine go hand in hand. Hunter said people regularly come to MJH to play piano as part of their Music and Medicine program.
"It's been proven that art, and music, and health care really enhances the patient experience and the healing process...so, to have a group that's nationally recognized coming here has just elevated the program," said Hunter.
The Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Martha Jefferson's Music and Medicine program all made the event possible.
