Teens Celebrate Their Gluten-Free Lifestyle with a Pizza Party

November 10, 2013

A few Charlottesville teens celebrate being gluten-free with a pizza party.

The Gluten Intolerance Group of Charlottesville (GIG) held a pizza party at Slice in the Barracks Road Shopping Center to raise awareness about being gluten-free and living a gluten-free lifestyle.

Some of the teens that came out for the party have Celiac Disease and aren't able to eat foods with gluten in them, including wheat and pasta.

“It's lets me be like a regular kid, because most of the times when I go to parties they don't have gluten free pizza, cupcakes, cake or anything like that,” says Jillian Cannon, who has Celiac Disease and has been gluten-free since she was a baby. “So I have to bring my own stuff or someone has to make it special for me.”

The GIG provides information, education and support to those with celiac disease. For more information on GIG or how to be gluten-free you can click on the link below.
