The Cost of Searching for Dashad 'Sage' Smith

May 17, 2013

The search for a missing transgender man has Charlottesville Police asking City Council for more money.

Police are asking City Council for an additional $127,000, the amount of money the department spent to search a Henrico landfill multiple times for evidence related to the disappearance of Dashad “Sage” Smith.

The request is being made as part of a "critical investigation that required extraordinary measures."

Nothing significant was found during the search.

The emergency fund request will be considered by Charlottesville City Council on Monday.

Smith was last seen in Charlottesville on November 20.
