The Virginia Homeschool Prom gave a prom to teens who don't automatically get one.

About 265 students from 9th through 12th grade attended The Great Gatsby themed night took place Friday night at Ash Lawn-Highland in Albemarle County. The event featured dancing as well as a photo both, roulette, card games, a soda and ice cream bar, and food.

The event started as a Charlottesville area prom 4 years ago, but has grown to be a prom for homeschoolers from farther away.

"It started as a small group of people that kind of all knew eachother and kept growing. I mean, I probably don't know more than half the people here, which is so neat, just to meet other homeschoolers from all over Virginia," said Katie Eagle, the head of the prom organizing committee.

Eagle said she and others started working on the prom six months ago.

"I think it's one of those things you hear about from your friends all the time, and, it's just one of those things you want to do during high school and it gives us the opportunity to do that when we normally wouldn't have the chance to. So, it's very special to me and important, and we love it," said Eagle.

Because many of the students had never met, to keep it fair, organizers randomly drew the names of the homecoming prince, princess, king, and queen.
