Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney Rusty McGuire Friday announced the conviction of Chad Goins, AKA Chad Tinsley, 33, from Richmond, Jason McDonald, 32, from Mineral, Sedrick Goins, 17, from Mineral.

After a three day trial, the jury convicted each of aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob and conspiracy to commit malicious wounding. Chad Goins was also convicted of abduction by deception.

At trial, McGuire argued that the victim, a father of three, on Father’s day 2011 was asked by Chad Goins to go to the store to get some beer. Instead of going to the store, Chad raced his car to a secluded road where others were waiting.

The victim ran but the mob caught him and all beat him severely leaving him for dead. A friend saw the beating and called 911 and saved his life. EMS evacuated the victim to the University of Virginia Medical Center where an emergency operation was performed. However, his daughter stated “he is a total different person and now has a mind of a child.”

The jury sentenced Chad Goins, a two time convicted sex offender, to life plus 40 years, the maximum sentence under the law. The jury sentenced McDonald to 26 years in prison. The law requires Sedrick, while tried as an adult, to be sentenced by the court which will take place on April 9, 2012.

On speaking on the conviction McGuire said, “this sentence will not give the victim his quality of life back but it ensures these predators will not prey on others.” Major Donnie Lowe said, “he is very excited and proud of the detectives and deputies and justice was served.”

i'm a little confused from the story about why the victim raced his car to a secluded area where the others were waiting. The story is not well-written. What was the possible motive for sons to brutally beat their father?

Was this just a random thing for these degenrates to do or was there something that caused it?
