Toddler Found Dead in Car in Roanoke

September 1, 2014

A two year old girl died in Roanoke Sunday afternoon after reportedly being left in a hot vehicle.

Police were called to a home on Kenwood Boulevard SE shortly before 4:30 Sunday afternoon to investigate a report of an unresponsive child found in a car seat in a van in the driveway.

Roanoke Fire-EMS crews were the first to arrive and pronounced the child dead.

After an initial investigation, police believe the toddler was left in the closed van by a parent for a long period of time.

The Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy on the child. Police are working with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office as they continue their investigation.
