The first 'Our Town Charlottesville meeting of the 2013 series was held Thursday night at the Tonsler Park Recreation Center for the Starr Hill and Fifeville neighborhoods.
It was a night to talk about the Starr Hill and Fifeville neighborhoods the residents who attended the meeting love so much.
"It's great because it's old and historic but it's also really neat because of the people who live here. It's mixed income, mixed race, mixed age," said Caroline Heins, a Fifeville resident for 10 years.
Tonsler Park Rec. Center was full of residents wanting to make their communities even better. They expressed their thoughts and concerns about the neighborhood whether it was about adding a crosswalk, diversity within the police force or getting a job.
"It was really important to me that the human resource manager was here, that the treasurer was here, that the actual people who work on hiring people could hear these concerns from the people who've applied for jobs," Heins said.
Residents say the opportunity to be face to face with city officials and city councilors gives them a little more hope than sending an email or leaving them a message.
"I don't know if that's going to make a change but I definitely do know that it causes these people who have really important jobs to have accountability and actually have to face the people that they serve. And that to me, is a major success of tonight," Heins said.
