Trial Pushed Back for Man Shot by Albemarle Co. Officer

Feb. 10, 2014

The trial for a man shot in an altercation with police has been pushed back.

The trial for Josue Salinas Valdez has been moved to October.

A judge dropped two felony charges against Valdez for allegedly assaulting a police officer two weeks ago.

Last May, two Albemarle Co. officers went to Birdwood Court after suspecting Valdez of a hit-and-run in the county.

That's when police say Valdez resisted arrest, and he was reportedly shot in the stomach by one of the officers. Valdez is still facing a misdemeanor assault and battery charge, drunk driving and felony failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

The Commonwealth's attorney could pursue more charges in the case.
