A May trial is set for a 13-year-old Chesapeake boy charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old girl.
Media outlets report that a judge on Tuesday denied a defense request to release the boy from a juvenile detention center.
Chesapeake Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Judge Eileen Olds scheduled a detention hearing review for March 13. The trial is scheduled to begin May 15.
Police say Carolyn A. Walker was shot Jan. 10 at an apartment complex where she and the boy both lived.
On Tuesday, police charged the boy with misdemeanor possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
