Trustees Tour Site of New Northside Library

July 28, 2014

Library trustees toured the construction site of the new Northside Library on Monday.

The new library is being called a major improvement for library services in Albemarle County. The new location on Rio Road will offer 30,000 square feet of library space, double the size of its current location.

It will also serve as the headquarters for the Jefferson Madison Regional Library (JMRL) bookmobile.

Thanks to public input, the building will also feature a small café and more meeting space.

"The greatest thing about this project, though, is that the facility will be owned by Albemarle County,” says John Halliday with JMRL. “So the library won't have to pay rent anymore. The current space in Albemarle Square is a rented facility, and that's a pretty expensive cost to tax payers every year"

The new Northside Library is set to open early next year.
